DENTAL CAT OR DOG
ON THE DAY OF YOUR PET'S DENTAL CARE APPOINTMENT, at the time of drop-off / check-in, we will have the following questions for you. Please review them before your appointment, and please contact us before that time if you have any questions or need more information about the procedure.
CHECK-IN is between 7:30 and 8:30. Most patients are awake and ready to go home by mid to late afternoon. (Occasionally we will schedule dental appointments in the afternoon; these patients usually stay overnight.) Your pet should have unlimited access to water up until check-in, and can either be fasted or have a small meal (1/4 to 1/3 the usual meal amount) on the morning of the procedure.

YVC DENTAL CLEANING costs $180. This includes general anesthesia, dental cleaning, and a dental exam by your doctor while your pet is anesthetized. Prior to anesthesia we will do a physical exam; if we have done one on your pet in the preceding year there is no charge; if we have not then the cost of the physical exam is $65.
The majority of dental disease occurs above the gumline, hidden from view. Dental x-rays ($50), in addition to our anesthetized exam and periodontal probing, are necessary to thoroughly evaluate your pet's mouth, and to plan and pursue treatment. We recommend them as part of a routine cleaning. In some cases dental x-rays will be required, not optional.
ANESTHETIC BLOOD PROFILE costs $89. We strongly recommend it, because it is a valuable addition to the anesthetic process and the general physical exam. Do you approve an anesthetic blood profile?
DENTAL AND ORAL SURGERY costs vary depending on the procedure. For perspective, a small procedure costs up to $300, a medium procedure costs up to $600 and a large procedure can cost $900 or more. The cost of dental and oral surgery is in addition to the costs of dental cleaning, x-rays, and anesthetic blood profile.
We will provide the best dental and oral surgery estimate we can based on your pet's awake dental exam, but we cannot provide an accurate estimate until we do the anesthetized dental exam and dental x-rays. With this in mind we will ask you to choose one of these options at the time of your pet's check-in:
1. I authorize everything the doctor determines is necessary, regardless of cost. You do not need to call me first.
2. I authorize dental and oral surgery up to a cost of (you provide any amount). If the cost will exceed this amount please call me before proceeding.
3. I do not authorize any dental and oral surgery. Please call me before proceeding with any procedure.
If you choose option 2 or 3, remember that your pet will be anesthetized when we call. If we cannot contact you promptly, your pet will be recovered from anesthesia and any procedure you choose will be scheduled for another time.
